From the Edtalks, I learned many different scenarios that some kids face. Many children could be battling with depression, harassment, poverty, or other at home responsibilities that they should not have to be dealing with at their age. Hearing everyones presentation about their books and the story behind the characters was eye opening. In the book I read, I learned about a girl who had to help take care of her brother because he was in a hospice state. She struggled with meeting all of her own needs and making sure she was ok. No one was keeping an eye out for her, so as a teacher you should be making sure she is ok without making a scene in front of the class, of course. Getting to understand possibilities of situations kids may be going through will help give you knowledge of what to be aware of as a teacher. Without reading these books and taking in the interoperation of those kids being my students, I would have never of even thought of some of the struggles they could go through. When I am in the classroom I will be keeping an eye out for any different emotions or activities by my students and will see if they want to privately talk about it at all.
