I interviewed my teacher who is also my best friends mom, Mrs. Beauchamp. Over her years, she has taught first through fourth grade. After interviewing her, I learned how much the kids she has taught kept her wanting to teach. The impact that Mrs. Beauchamp has had on kids in the school has shown truly when many go back to ask her for advice or if they ever just wanted someone to talk to. Being an impactful teacher is important because some kids may not get the attention they desire due to having tough situation at home, meaning no one is there or cares for them. Being impactful will also keep the kids engaged and wanting to try. Everyone loves a teacher who you can tell wants to help make their students thrive.

For the Wisconsin Schools Project, my group has the Fond Du Lac county. I have learned that Fond Du Lac is a pretty big city and the county has 61 schools in it. The public schools typically were more diverse than the private schools. Many of the private and charter schools were from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Majority of the schools also have more males than females. Doing all of this research on schools in the Fond Du Lac county it has made me realized how different schools compare. Since I am from Michigan, learning a little about the geography and diversity of Wisconsin was very helpful. I did not know how much more diversity there was in parts of Green Bay, like in the area I work. Learning the averages of teacher salaries also was surprising. Depending on the area depends on how much the teachers get paid. Some average salaries were higher than I expected, but that could just mean there is some long term teachers there. In Fond Du Lac and North Fond Du Lac the Free Reduced Lunch percent is about half of the students, while in the other districts they are about one fourth. I learned that back home our FRL is also a little over 50% which made me realize you might not actually realize the amount of people who may qualify for FRL. Lastly, I found out that Fond Du Lac county is a little below the average cost of living in the United States.
I have been working as an after school Y program staff for a month now. I work at Sullivan Elementary and I have mainly been with the second and third graders. Already I have gained a bunch of knowledge about working with younger kids. I have recognized the different kinds of behaviors kids have towards a certain activity. Some kids are very stubborn and I have learned you really need to persuade and make work or activities seem fun and interesting. One challenge I have encountered is that it is very difficult sometimes to get the students attention and have them listen to you. It starts to be very frustrating when the students talk over you while you are trying to teach them something.
